Kareem Ayas – Playwright

Raucous Caucus Play: Black Standard

Kareem Ayas is fresh entry into the playwriting world. Starting out as a freelance journal editor and an ESL teacher, Kareem was accepted into the New York University Graduate Dramatic Writing program with a concentration in Television. Being of Lebanese/Syrian nationality, he has enjoyed portraying the heart of his culture through the flexible medium of theater. Kareem has had productions of short pieces, like Yellowcake, and Zeina staged in small theaters throughout the East Coast. He also currently has a play in development at the Culture Project. He is a stand-up comic, having performed at popular venues like The Comedy Cellar and Stand Up NY, and is also the recipient of the Best Half Hour Television Writer award from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He hopes that after two years of graduate school and two months of attempting to be a writer, this great opportunity at Box Wine Theater will be the first of many.
